Iasi Hotels/Hostels/Apartments

Iasi’s accommodations remain sub-par in the cost-versus-value arena considering all the renovations that have been going on lately. Be prepared to fork out more money than you’d planned for reasonable comfort. Visit Antrec for rural accommodations (per person 10-20 euros).

These guys have also just completed renovations. The high-ceiling rooms in this elegant hotel, designed by Gustave Eiffel are awash in old-world comfort, with large, modern bathrooms. The multilingual staff are some of the best and helpful hotel clerks in Romania.

Str Sfantu Lazar 76
Doubles 17 euros
Triples 19.30 euros
What you’d expect of an athlete's hotel in Romania. Well, maybe it's worse, but hey, its cheap! Directly behind the Palace of Culture. Call ahead as it is often booked with visiting sport groups.

Casa Bucovineana Hostel
Tel. +40 (0) 232 222 913
Cuza Voda 30
(all with shared bathroom)
Singles 19.60 euros
Doubles 30 euros
Suites 56 euros
Recent renovations (and the ejection of the hookers) have made the rooms here more palatable. Some doubles have in-room showers. Breakfast not included.

Hotel Continental
(Tel. +40 (0) 232 211 846
Piata 14 Decembrie 1989
Singles with shared bathroom 25.50 euros
Doubles with shared bathroom 30 euros
Singles with private bathroom 30 euros
Doubles with private bathroom 40.50 euros
Following the city-wide trend, the rooms here have been renovated (as well as the prices). Shared bathrooms are clean, private bathrooms are new and immaculate and well worth the extra money. Get a room away from the noisy street.

Hotel Studis
Tel. +40 (0) 232 0332-107 152
Str Otilia Cazimir 10
Doubles 31.50 euros
That new smell is still present, in this just-completed, relatively upscale student apartment/hotel. It's kinda hard to find (at the end of a tiny alley behind the giant Universitatea Petre Andrei building across from Hotel Europa). All rooms have Internet. Wheelchair accessible. Breakfast not included.

Majestic Pension and Restaurant
Tel. +40 (0) 232 255 557
Str. Petru Rares 7
Singles 47
Doubles 57 euros
This is a new, family-owned four-star pension with a great location; impeccably central but far enough from busy streets so you can't hear the trams rumbling by. The rooms are low-lit (almost too much so) with mini-bar, Internet and large bathrooms. The onsite restaurant is manned by a French-trained chef.

Little Texas
Tel. +40 (0) 232 272 545
Stradela Moara de Vant 31
Singles 65 euros
Doubles 78 euros
A bit far from the center (half-way between the city and the airport - 10 minutes drive from the Palace), this four star place is run by genuine Lone Star State expats. Plunder such amenities as Internet, cable television, mini-bar, balcony with panoramic city views, room service, laundry service and an authentic Tex-Mex restaurant, serving the richest mud cake in Romania.
