Aleea Strandului 1
Part of the Continental chain, this is a modern and comfortable nine-story business hotel with thermal pool, masseur, nightclub. The shockingly blue interiors may be a bit ocularly overwhelming for some, otherwise, it's a great place. In-room Internet extra.

This is hands down my favorite place in town (if I could afford it). These rooms were made to party. Spacious, classy, contemporary, with huge marble bathrooms, some with spas, and your own private bar! No, not ‘mini-bar’ (though they have those too), this is a full-on bar, complete with stools and mixing doohickies! The highlight is the Blue Suite, which has a bed the size of a trampoline. Seriously. Standard rooms are also notably large and bar-equipped. Bring ample booze.

Calea Republicii 5-7

Doubles 23 euros
Behind the uninviting facade and dodgy reception area, are worn, but large, reasonably clean rooms. This is the best (and now only) budget option in town. Singles have shared toilet.

Pension Gobe

Str Dobrogeanu Gherea 26
Singles 30 euros
Doubles 40 euros
This is a family owned pension, with a few charming rooms, a small restaurant, and a bar. The downside is that it's a bit of a hike from the center.

Yet another victim of the country-wide trend to turn all busy and profitable budget hotels into elegant four star properties with three guests. Sigh. That said, every nook of this 1908 Art Nouveau building has been beautified with stained-glass windows, crystal chandeliers and Italian decor. Whether you're a guest or not, the glass-ceilinged day bar should be visited for a cup of coffee and 30 minutes of sheer elegance.
