This Soviet monstrosity contains clean, large four-star rooms. Synchronize watches with the giant, working, landscaped clock near the entrance. Wheelchair accessible.

Villa International
Tel. +40 (0) 256 499 339
B-dul CD Loga 48
Singes 50 euros
Doubles 60 euros
Part villa, part morbid tourist attraction. The Ceausescus only slept here for two nights, but the the hotel hung onto their ‘personal effects’, which are apparently free for guest use. Additionally, the villa has an unusual faded glory and an eerie ambience. Rooms are achingly in need of renovation and bare, but clean. A sneak-peak at the dated lobby is highly recommended.

Str Mangalia 3
Singles 120
Doubles 140 euros
The place to go when work is paying; plush, opulently furnished, with a sauna, gym and outdoor terrace. The economy and standard rooms lack tangible luxury, but the business class and above boast large rooms, gold trim, paintings and tubs.
