There are a surprising number of faceless, over-priced three-star hotels in town.

The bedding is surprisingly clean if you can overlook the infinitesimal size of the rooms and the staggering infusion of cigarette stench. You won't find anything cheaper in 100 kilometers, but this place will challenge all but the hardest of travelers. There's no address that I could sleuth. Look for it on the west side of the main square, above Café Ada-Kaleh.

Their location sucks; 2km northwest of the city center on an unlikely residential side street. However it's worth the hunt. The rooms are comfortable, there's a respectable on-site international restaurant and free WiFi. From B-dul Vladiminescu (the main drag, also know as highway E70), heading towards Timisoara, scan the road for their billboard and just follow the signs.

This is easily the best looking place in town and unlike other Continental properties, they haven't jacked up the prices to ridiculous levels (yet). The two-star rooms here are in commendable condition, particularly the bathrooms, while the three-star rooms are exceptional. Request a room facing the river. The restaurant offers a cheap menu with a shady terrace overlooking the park and river. There’s an outside bar and cafe which is packed in summer. In-room Internet extra charge.
