Eforie Nord & Eforie Sud Eforie Nord, 14km south of Constanta, is the first large resort south of Mamaia. Beaches sit below 10-20 meter cliffs. An alternate bathing spot is Lake Belona, behind the southern end of the beach. Lake Techirghiol, within walking distance of the city center, is famous for its stinky, black sapropel mud, effective against infirmities such as rheumatism. Its waters are five times saltier than the sea. While Eforie Nord is smaller, it's no less crowded than Mamaia in the summer; packed with restaurants, discos and thousands of revellers. However, the choice of accommodation is more varied, and less prison-like, than in Mamaia. Eforie Sud, is 4km south of Eforie Nord and is generally more run-down and thus cheaper than its northern sister. However, a recent 2.8 billion euro rejuvenation project is under way, which will see development and general beautifying projects continuing through to 2011. |
