September 28th, 2007: Romania ranks 69th in corruption index. No news there. I think all that magically disappearing EU funding may have something to do with it.

August 10th, 2007: Now I'm usually not one to spread fear, but this story gave me the heebiejeebies and I thought others should at least be aware of it: Fiumicino, sfiorata la tragedia Un volpino salva un aeroplano. If your Italian isn't up to scartch (don't worry, neither is mine, a friend summarized it for me), basically a Blue Air flight going from Rome to Bucharest narrowly escaped disaster. Someone, undoubtedly distracted by their smoke break or cell phone, forgot to close the luggage bay on the plane. As it was taxiing to take off, a dog escaped from its kennel, jumped out of the plane and started following it down the runway. The dog's owner saw this, yelled for them to stop the plane and saved the day. Everyone on the plane would have died when the air pressure changed at altitude. Good dog.

Jan 19th, 2007: Low-cost airline Wizz Air launches base in Romania

Jan 9th, 2007: Why does this come as no surprise? Romania Lagging On Anti-corruption Reforms I have it on good authority that corruption in Romania won't dramatically improve "until all the old people die" who are currently in power. In other news, Romania wants "Dracula's castle" back and Low-cost air companies in Romania double passenger number, which lists all the current low-cost carries into Romania and other carriers (e.g. EasyJet) that are preparing to start routes of their own.

Jan 7th, 2007: New year, new position in the world, same tourism shtick: Romania sinks its teeth into the tourist trade
